Australia’s first-ever Pearly Spurtle – Festival of Porridge is set to take over Pearl Beach on Saturday 8 August 2026, bringing hours of laughter, creativity and oats to the Central Coast.
Inspired by Scotland’s famous World Porridge Making Championships and the award-winning documentary The Golden Spurtle, the quirky community event celebrates the humble bowl of porridge with a distinctly Australian twist. At the heart of the festival is a unique porridge-making championship where competitors will prepare both Traditional and Creative porridge dishes. Judges will assess entries across both categories, with one competitor crowned the Overall Pearly Spurtle Champion.
Creativity through porridge
The Overall Champion will win a return trip to Scotland and the opportunity to represent Australia at the prestigious Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championships in Carrbridge this October. The festival will also feature creative porridge competitions, a kids’ porridge decorating competition, pipe band performances, Scottish dancing, rum tasting, a hot buttered rum bar, bacon butties and gourmet porridge bowls.
Organisers say the event is all about laughter, creativity and fun. “We wanted to create something completely different — a day that brings people together and doesn’t take itself too seriously,” organisers said. “It’s designed to be a day of hilarity, friendly competition and celebrating creativity through porridge.”
Run entirely by volunteers, the festival is also a fundraiser, supporting the ongoing maintenance and preservation of the much-loved Pearl Beach Memorial Hall.
Pearly Spurtle – Festival of Porridge takes place on Saturday August 8th at Pearl Beach Memorial Community Hall. All are welcome to attend, compete, taste or simply enjoy the spectacle. For more information visit: www.pearlyspurtle.com.
