In the Footsteps of Galt and Burns-Virtual Event

January 24, 2021

“Travel” to the Scottish town of Irvine from the comfort of your home and celebrate Robbie Burns Day online with the Irvine Burns Club.
The Irvine Burns Club has prepared an exclusive online program for Guelph Museums that explores the links between Robert Burns and Guelph-founder John Galt. The program includes a virtual tour of the Wellwood Burns Museum , along with a spirited rendering of Burns’ poem “Address to a Haggis” recited by Irvine Burns Club Directors and Members, including the President David Burns and North Ayrshire Council’s Provost Ian Clarkson.
Once recognized as a Royal Burgh since the 13th Century, Irvine is a historical town that has strong literary links with John Galt and Robert Burns, who lived and worked in the town in 1781-82.
“We treasure our links with the City of Guelph and will build on these as we mark the 200th Anniversary of the publication of Galt’s first novels. We were honoured to receive the invitation and wish the citizens of Guelph well in 2021,” says Bill Nolan, Irvine Burns Club Honorary Secretary and former President, Robert Burns World Federation.
In the Footsteps of Galt and Burns is a free online event. Watch the live stream on Guelph Museums Facebook or through the Museum’s ONLINE page.
